Why use a Snapchat profile picture viewer?

In the Snapchat app, profile pictures appear as small circles that you can't zoom into. That makes it hard to tell whether you have found the right person, to read text in a brand's logo, or to see the detail in a creator's photo. What resolution do you get?

Snapchat stores public profile pictures in several sizes and shows the small version in most places. Our viewer requests the largest version available, which for many public profiles is 1080 × 1080 pixels. We also offer a 640 px version if you want a smaller file. The actual size depends on the image the creator uploaded. If they uploaded a small picture, it won't become sharper by enlarging it.

Profile picture vs Bitmoji

Many Snapchat users show a Bitmoji (a cartoon avatar) instead of a photo. Public profiles usually have a real profile photo or logo, and that is what this tool displays. If an account has no public profile picture, Snapchat may only provide a Bitmoji or a default ghost image, and you will see that instead. Personal accounts without a public profile often don't publish any image at all.

Good reasons to view a profile picture

• Confirming identity. Before you add someone or subscribe, a clear look at their photo helps avoid fake or copycat accounts.
• Spotting impersonation. If you think someone is using your photo, you can check the full-size image and report the account to Snapchat.
• Brand assets. Social media managers can quickly grab a client's current Snapchat profile image to check that branding is consistent across platforms.
• Your own picture. Lost the original of your profile photo? Download it again from your public profile.

Using downloaded profile pictures

A profile picture is personal. Viewing it to identify an account is fine, but using someone's photo as your own avatar, in an advert, or to create a fake account is not acceptable and may be illegal. Keep downloads for reference and personal use, and respect people's privacy. If you find an account impersonating you, report it inside Snapchat from the profile's menu.

Saving the picture on your phone

On Android, tap Download HD and the JPG goes straight to your Downloads folder, where Google Photos and most gallery apps can see it. On iPhone, Safari saves the file to the Files app. Open it there, tap the Share icon and choose Save Image to add it to Photos. On a computer, you can also right-click the large picture and choose "Save image as". If the image looks blurry, the creator probably uploaded a low-resolution photo. The HD button always gives you the largest version Snapchat stores, so there is no sharper copy to find elsewhere. Some accounts change their picture often, so the image you see is always the current one, never an older version.
