Snapchat+ Explained: Features, Price and Whether It's Worth It
- Snapchat+ is an optional subscription. Snapping, chatting, stories and Spotlight stay free without it.
- Headline features include the Friend Solar System, story rewatch info, custom app icons, pinning a #1 best friend and a custom story timer.
- Prices vary by country and change over time, so the price in your app is the only reliable one.
- Cancel through the App Store or Google Play. Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription.
- It doesn't reveal private stories, profile visitors or anyone's location.
Snapchat+ is Snapchat's paid subscription. It doesn't change how the core app works. Snapping, chatting, stories and Spotlight remain free. Instead, it adds extra features, early access to new tools and more ways to customise the app. Here's what you get, how pricing works, and how to decide whether it's worth it for you.
What is Snapchat+?
Snap launched Snapchat+ in 2022 as an optional monthly or yearly subscription. Subscribers get a badge on their profile and access to a rotating set of exclusive and early-release features. Snapchat adds and changes features regularly, and some are tested only in certain countries first, so the exact list in your app may differ from the one below.
Popular Snapchat+ features
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Friend Solar System | Shows which planet you are in a friend's solar system, meaning your rank among their top 8 best friends. See Snapchat planets explained. |
| Story rewatch info | Shows which friends rewatched your story. |
| Custom app icons | Change the Snapchat icon on your home screen to alternative designs. |
| Pin a #1 best friend | Pin a friend as your #1 best friend, whatever the algorithm says. |
| Custom story timer | Choose how long your story stays up, instead of the standard 24 hours. |
| Bitmoji backgrounds and extras | Exclusive backgrounds and options for your Bitmoji and profile. |
| Snap Map extras | Visual extras on the map, such as ghost trails, where available. |
| Priority story replies | Your replies to public creators' stories can be shown with higher priority. |
| Customisation | Chat wallpapers, custom notification sounds and custom friend emojis, depending on version. |
| Early access | Try new and experimental features before everyone else. |
How much does Snapchat+ cost?
Pricing depends on your country and currency and changes over time. Since launch, the standard plan in the United States has been priced at roughly $3.99 per month, with cheaper effective pricing for yearly and family options where they're offered. Snapchat has also introduced additional tiers in some markets, with different feature sets and prices. Because these details change, the only reliable price is the one shown in your app. Open your profile and tap the Snapchat+ banner to see the current options in your region before you subscribe.
Snapchat sometimes offers a free trial for new subscribers. If you start one, note the renewal date. Trials normally turn into paid subscriptions automatically unless you cancel before they end.
How to subscribe
- Open Snapchat and tap your profile icon.
- Tap the Snapchat+ card or banner.
- Choose a plan and confirm the payment through the App Store or Google Play.
Once active, the Snapchat+ section in your profile lets you switch individual features on and off.
How to cancel Snapchat+
Subscriptions bought in the app are managed by Apple or Google, not inside Snapchat:
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Snapchat → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Snapchat → Cancel.
Deleting the Snapchat app doesn't cancel your subscription. After cancelling, you usually keep the features until the end of the period you've already paid for.
Is Snapchat+ worth it?
Probably worth it if…
- you use Snapchat every day and like customising your app,
- you're curious about features like the Friend Solar System and story rewatch info,
- you're a creator who wants priority replies and early access to new tools.
Probably not worth it if…
- you mostly chat and post occasionally, because the core experience is identical without it,
- you're paying for it just to see who looked at your profile. Snapchat+ doesn't show who visited your profile.
What Snapchat+ can't do
Snapchat+ doesn't unlock other people's private stories, show who viewed your public profile page, reveal anyone's location without their consent, or let you see who took a screenshot without the normal notification. It also doesn't let you view stories anonymously. Story views from your account are still shown to the creator. If you want to watch public stories without signing in, a web tool like the SnapSave story viewer works for public profiles only.
Snapchat+ and privacy
Some Snapchat+ features reveal information about friendships, such as your rank in a friend's Solar System. If you're uncomfortable with that, you can turn off Friend Solar System in the Snapchat+ settings, which hides it on your profile. Non-subscribers don't see these features at all.
Snapchat+ for teens and families
Snapchat+ is available to teens in many countries, and payment goes through the App Store or Google Play account. Parents can use the stores' family controls, such as Ask to Buy on iPhone or purchase approvals in Google Play, to approve subscriptions before they start. Snapchat's Family Center, which is free and separate from Snapchat+, lets parents see who their teen is friends with and who they've recently messaged, without seeing message content. If you're a parent deciding about Snapchat+, the features are mostly cosmetic and social. The main thing to talk through is how features like the Friend Solar System reveal friendship rankings.
FAQ
