How to download a Snapchat story
Find the username
Copy the creator's Snapchat username, or the snapchat.com/add/ link from the Share button on their profile.
Load the story
Paste it above and tap Get Stories. Today's public story appears first, followed by saved highlights.
Save the files
Tap Download under any snap, or use Download all to get the complete story as one ZIP file.
Save Snapchat stories before they disappear
Snapchat stories are designed to be temporary. A public story stays visible for about 24 hours, and after that it is gone unless the creator saves it to a highlight. That is great for spontaneous posting but frustrating if you wanted to watch a tutorial again, keep a recipe someone shared, or hold on to a clip from an event. The SnapSave story downloader gives you a simple way to keep a personal copy of public stories while they are still live.
This page is tuned for stories. When you search a username, the current public story is shown first, in the order it was posted, and the creator's saved highlights follow underneath. If you only want short-form clips, use the Spotlight downloader instead.
What you get when you download
- Original quality files. Video snaps are saved as MP4 and photo snaps as JPG, exactly as Snapchat delivers them to public viewers. We do not add a watermark or shrink the file.
- Clear file names. Every file is named after the account and its position in the story, for example username-story-3.mp4, so your downloads folder stays organised.
- Bulk saving. The Download all button collects every snap in a section into a ZIP archive inside your browser. Long stories and big highlight collections are split into several parts so nothing times out.
- No account linked. You never sign in and the story is never opened from your Snapchat account, so the creator doesn't see your name.
Story downloader vs screen recording
Many people record their screen to keep a story. It works, but it has drawbacks: the recording includes the app interface, the quality depends on your screen resolution, and you have to sit through every snap in real time. Snapchat may also show the creator that you recorded or screenshotted their snap. Downloading the original file avoids all of that. You get the clip itself, at the quality it was uploaded, in a few seconds.
Where do downloaded stories go?
On Android, files are saved to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps pick them up automatically. On iPhone and iPad, Safari puts downloads in the Files app under Downloads. Open the video, tap the Share icon and choose Save Video to move it to Photos. On Windows and Mac, files go to your browser's default download folder. ZIP files open with the built-in archive tools on all of these systems.
Why a story might not show up
If a username returns no story, it is usually for one of these reasons:
- The account is a personal account without a public profile. Stories shared with "My Friends" or a custom list are private and cannot be downloaded by anyone outside that audience.
- The creator has not posted a public story in the last 24 hours. Try their highlights, which stay on the profile.
- The username is wrong. Use the handle from the profile link, not the display name.
- Snapchat is briefly limiting requests. Wait a few minutes and try again.

Use downloads responsibly
Downloading public content for your own reference is one thing. Re-posting it is another. Stories belong to the people who made them, so ask for permission before sharing a downloaded clip, credit the creator, and never use someone's content to embarrass or harass them. If you are a creator and want your public profile excluded from our tool, contact us and we'll take care of it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I download someone's Snapchat story without them knowing?
Yes, for public stories. The story is loaded by our server instead of your Snapchat account, so the creator doesn't see your name in the viewer list and isn't notified about the download.
Can I download a whole story at once?
Yes. Use the Download all button above the story. Your browser builds a ZIP file containing every snap in that section. Very long sections are split into several ZIP parts.
Is there a limit on how many stories I can download?
There is no daily limit. If Snapchat temporarily limits requests, wait a few minutes and search again.
Can I download private or Close Friends stories?
No. Only public stories are available. Private stories, Close Friends stories and snaps sent directly to someone can't be accessed by any outside tool.
Why did a story disappear after I searched for it?
Public stories expire about 24 hours after posting. If the creator saved the snap to a highlight, you can still find it in the highlights section.
Does the story downloader work with links?
Yes. You can paste snapchat.com/add/username or snapchat.com/@username links as well as plain usernames.
