How to Save Snapchat Spotlight Videos (Yours and Other Creators')

By the SnapSave Team · Updated November 2, 2026 · 4 min read · Guides

Key takeaways
  • The best copy of your own Spotlight is the one you save to Memories before posting.
  • Favourites and copied links are bookmarks only. They break if the creator deletes the video.
  • To keep an actual MP4 of a public Spotlight, use a Spotlight downloader with the share link or the creator's username.
  • Screen recording works but gives lower quality and includes the app interface.
  • On iPhone, downloads land in Files → Downloads. Use Share → Save Video to move them to Photos.
  • Keep other creators' videos for personal use, and ask permission before reposting anything.

Spotlight is Snapchat's feed of short, entertaining videos, and some of them are worth keeping: a recipe, a workout routine, a funny moment you want to show someone later. Snapchat has some built-in options for saving, but they work differently for your own videos and for other creators' videos. Here's every method, from easiest to most flexible.

Option 1: save your own Spotlight before posting

If you made the video, the best copy is the original. Before you submit a snap to Spotlight, tap the Save (download) button on the preview screen. That stores it in your Memories, and from there you can export it to your camera roll. You can also turn on automatic saving of your snaps to Memories in Snapchat's settings, so every snap you create is backed up.

Option 2: save your own Spotlight after posting

Already posted it without saving? Open your profile, go to your Spotlight section and open the video. Depending on your app version, the menu (three dots) may offer an option to save or download it. If it doesn't, you can use a public downloader. Enter your own username in our Spotlight downloader to get your public Spotlight videos back as MP4 files.

Option 3: add other creators' videos to Favourites

When you find a Spotlight you like, you can add it to your Favourites from the share or menu options. This works like a bookmark inside Snapchat: you can rewatch it later from your profile, but it isn't saved to your phone. If the creator deletes the video, it disappears from your favourites too.

Option 4: copy the link

Tap the Share arrow on any Spotlight and choose Copy Link. The link looks like snapchat.com/spotlight/… and opens the video in any web browser, even for people without Snapchat. Links are perfect for sending a video to a friend, but like favourites they stop working if the video is removed.

Option 5: download the MP4 with a Spotlight downloader

To keep an actual file of someone else's public Spotlight video, use a downloader:

  1. Copy the Spotlight link from the Share menu, or note the creator's username.
  2. Open the SnapSave Spotlight downloader and paste the link or username.
  3. Tap Get Spotlight. Tap Download under the video, or use Download all to save the creator's public Spotlight videos as a ZIP.

The file is the MP4 that Snapchat serves publicly, without an extra watermark from us. It works on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac.

Option 6: screen recording

Every modern phone can record its screen. It works for any video you can play, but the result includes the app interface, depends on your screen resolution and may pick up notification sounds. Downloading the original file gives you a cleaner result in less time.

Where saved videos go

  • iPhone: Safari puts downloads in the Files app, in the Downloads folder. Open the video, tap Share, then Save Video to move it to Photos.
  • Android: files go to the Downloads folder and normally show up in Google Photos or your gallery app.
  • Computer: your browser's download folder. ZIP files can be opened by double-clicking them.

Respect copyright and creators

Spotlight creators can earn money from their videos, and their work is protected like any other creative content. Saving a video for personal viewing is one thing. Re-uploading it to your own account, using it in adverts or removing the creator's name is another. If you want to feature someone's Spotlight, ask them first and credit them clearly. Snapchat may also remove re-uploaded content that isn't yours.

Saving Spotlight videos on a computer

Spotlight links open in any desktop browser, so you don't need your phone. Copy the link on your phone and send it to yourself, or find the creator's public profile on the web. Then paste the link or username into the downloader on your computer. The MP4 saves to your usual downloads folder, ready for video editors and media players. If you're saving many clips from one creator for research, Download all creates a ZIP so you don't have to click each video. Keep the browser tab open until the progress counter finishes, especially on slower connections.

FAQ

Does the creator know if I save their Spotlight?

Adding to favourites or copying a link inside the app doesn't send a "saved" alert to the creator. Downloading through a web tool happens outside Snapchat, so there is nothing to notify them about.

Can I save Spotlight videos with sound?

Yes. Downloaded MP4 files include the audio track as published. Some licensed music may be muted in certain regions by Snapchat.

Why does a Spotlight link say it isn't available?

The creator deleted it, Snapchat removed it, or the link was copied incompletely. Try copying it again from the Share menu.
